Got this from the Shantotto mini expansion random key reward. As far as I can tell, it only gives +1 to sword skill. Why +d?!

i should really call a gm or something to log a bug report :P

I've beaten the latest expansion, I'll do another post about it later.

Well, last entry I posted about getting a radiant lance from Nyzul. Since then I've gone and worked on the ws points needed to unlock Drakesbane for drg. Since I only have floor 40 recorded... ws points needed was 3520 according to wiki.

and that's after 3520 ws points... 1 down, 2 more to go! I was lucky Wulf has savage blade and I can sc light with it... I won't be so lucky on PLD though since I can only do fusion sc. More crab genocide gogo.

On an unrelated note, spent some points and gave my NPC fellow a new weapon

it *sqeaks* everytime she smack the mob, just like the toy in real life!

So today went to do Nyzul with a pick up group I ran into last week. Apparently they are a set and the RDM in their group is really behind.. like need to catch up from floor 10 all the way to floor 70. So for right now, they are letting me tag along with the RDM for all the climbing runs since I was only on floor 10 too. Just today we got to floor 40 clear.

And in today's run... i got...

Afterward we went to appraise the ??? neck we got dropped from Argus.

hur hur. Time to sell the Peacock charm i have :P

I've been trying to do the augment in Valley of Sorrow. When I can get help, I duo with someone... sometimes I try to 2 box...

Got this after sacrificing a taru (Wulf) and I was literally 1 more hit away from death...

not too bad eh? I'm going to keep trying with Weskits to see if I can get something better. I'll keep this one for now.

the last fight for this expansion made the last fight in the previous expansion look easy. It took me 5 tries to finally beat it. To make it worse, each time I failed, I had to go do the 3 mini-game challenge thingy just before it to get the tag for it again.

But finally! grrr. The storyline is still rather shallow, but funny at times. I'd say it's worth just about $10 I guess.

Anyhow, I didn't remember to take any pictures until almost to the last fight... so yeah.. here are some random pics..

Argh... I don't know what is going on with that first 2 moogle pics. The image don't have so much white spaces on my PC. Yet when it gets onto photobucket, all the white spaces were added. The more I try to fix it the worse it become... So I'll just have to put up with the white space.

Now to finish SAM so I can wear Duck Helmet.

Let me say this now!

1) if any time in the future FFXI requires me to do this, I will quit. My current card on there is good until 2012. Assuming no billing gaffs from SE, then it's good until then.

2) If this is a requirement for paying for FF14, chances are very good that I will not be playing FF14.

Well! Hopefully that's the only culprit.

Since I've more or less narrowed it down to graphics card problem...

yanked out both 8800GTX card I had.

put 1 in, turn on PC, it boots! seem everything is good and normal.

shut down, pull that card out.

put in 2nd card, turn on PC. Graphics artifact showing up at post, graphics artifact at windows starting, and then hang after windows starts.

*ding*

bad 8800 card.

so now I'm running only 1 8800 card, no more SLI. I think I'll keep it like this for now. It's not like FFXI or any game I play are super graphics demanding anyways. Downloaded program to monitor temp too. I'll watch them over the next couple of days and see how that goes.

At least computer is up and running...

PC update

So! installed Knoppix onto a flash drive... boot into Knoppix through flash drive, completely bypass the HDD this time. Boot fine, left computer on for 2-3 hours

graphical artifact showing up again. But this time it didn't cause a hard crash.

hmmm.

Seems to point to graphic cards overheating? Probably going to have to buy a new graphics card to test... hopefully this fixes the problem...

But would an overheated graphics card cause windows to unable to boot? I've never heard of this before though...

I'm rather stumped right now.

There I was, on my desktop, just surfing the net, reading news websites and stuff. I went AFK for no more than 2 minutes, went to turn on the sprinklers in the backyard. I came back and saw my PC hung and with all kinds of weird lines of colors on the screen. Had to hold the power button to shutdown.

turn it back on, it went ok for about an hour or 2, then same thing happens.

Suspecting something is overheating, I opened the case.. checked all the fans. Both graphics card fan, check, both work. CPU cooling fan, check, works, too. so I used a desk fan to blow on the pc with the case open and turn on the pc. 30 mins later, same thing happens.

hmm!

Double checked all the fans, work. But now I can't even turn on the pc anymore. It now hangs during windows bootup. When I bootup my pc now, the bios part boots up perfectly fine. Once it starts the windows bootup, the lines start appear and the pc gets stuck in the middle of it.

so... is it just HDD failure? I don't see how hdd fail could produce graphical artifacts? Or did whatever was failing created bad sectors and corrupted files during all that hard shutdowns...?

halp? D:

otherwise I'm looking at having to shop for a new pc orz

I think that's the highest I can ever do without relic helmet. Did that much with empathy a body boost to wyvern + deep breath + saurian helm. If only for the purpose of showing off haha.

So today as I was trying to farm for a key item to continue my mini-expansion quests/missions, I saw Pharaun was farming too. I decided to invite him. 2 people farming is better than 1 right?

Well it did make things go faster and then later Vistos joined us, and then Tri, and picked up 2 more people on the way and finished the expansion in 1 afternoon.

First thing first, my impression of the expansion. Story is just OK. It is just way too short to really get into the story. Just when I thought I was starting to enjoy the story, the expansion was over. I know it is suppose to be just a mini expansion but I thought they could have done a better job at making a more elaborate storyline. I was really disappointed that it could be completed in 1 short afternoon. I hope the next 2 mini expansions will have better and more engaging story than this one.

With that said, as you can see at the top, I chose my reward! Here are the stats:

these 2 will help a lot for my quest to be a better pup/sch! Now just need 4 more pesky merit upgrades on optimization and I'd be set.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni movie

eeps...

I must say, watching it live action is just not as creepy as it was watching it anime. Perhaps part of it is I know the story already.

Few things...

-Movie follows the Keiichi arc... Not literally but close enough. Some grim details were left in... some were left out...

-was Keiichi this annoying at the beginning of the anime as he was in the movie? It's been too long I don't remember clearly...

-Rika... is... still... too... old! and hair too short haha. So not the same impression as the anime.

-Mion is <3 lol Rena is so so... Satoko is too old! orz

-Oishi suffers the opposite problem... he's younger than his anime self! haha. and more fit too :P

Otherwise the movie is ok. Quite a few spots here and there kept me going "I don't remember this?" but still watchable
If you've watched the anime and liked it... you'll probably have some problem with the live action adaptation of this :P
It already have an advert for the 2nd movie at the end! Seems like going to come out 2009. Some kind of OVA as well hm!
